The tropical The Anambas Islands are a remote and idyllic Indonesian archipelago in the South China Sea. In fact, the island chain is located so remotely, that it's considered pretty much the edge of the world. Yet, the territory's tiny islands, are protected from heavy weather and extreme seas by Peninsular Malaysia to the west and Borneo to the east.

In addition, the islands are truly blessed with endless alluring panoramas, both on land and at sea. Small wonder then that none other than CNN includes Anambas in the Top Five when it comes to breathtaking tropical island paradise destination in Asia.

Whilst the Anambas population lives more or less of the sea, tourism in the Anambas Islands has been gaining some traction of late. Hotels, resorts, homestays and other lodging types are beginning to appear, particularly on the more accessible Anambas islands. And visitors numbers, though still very modest, have been growing annually.

As of currently, 2024, Anambas faces a T-junction; on the one hand, the breathtaking islands are still not really accessible and, as such, still mostly undiscovered by the outside world. But on the other hand, the Anambas territory offers absolutely spectacular potential and, this much is clear, looks poised to become a major international tourist hot-spot in the not-too-distant future. Aided in no small part by the efforts of an enterprising and forward-looking Anambas government.

To wit, the authorities in the Anambas Islands are very aware of the importance of connectivity in an area that consists of over 200 scattered islands, the vast majority completely uninhabited. In fact, a number of infrastructure developments have been initiated, including new roads, bridges, a commercial airport, as well as a fibre optics internet project linking Anambas to Malaysia and Borneo.

In short... if ever there was a moment to experience the Anambas Islands in their full pristine glory, it's now. So if you're thinking of exploring some of the wonders in Anambas, perhaps my blog can inspire you.
