Anambas Project Aware
In 1989, a group of PADI environmental advocates were compelled by the deteriorating state of the world's oceans to try to bring a halt to the threats faced by the underwater world. Together, they founded Project AWARE. Project AWARE's ultimate objective is to reverse the growing issues faced by the world's oceans and to nurse the marine world back to full health.
Barely three years later, in 1992, as a result of the support of the global dive community, Project AWARE Foundation was officially registered as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the U.S. In addition, to appeal to divers and snorkelers around the world, Project AWARE became an established UK charity in 1999. Formal nonprofit status in Australia followed in 2002.
Ever since, Project AWARE has risen to the emerging challenges facing the world's underwater environments.
Since 2011, one of the main focal points of Project AWARE is marine debris. Scuba divers and snorkelers are ideally positioned to change the course of these two issues.
The Blue Planet
It is for this reason that Project AWARE empowers each and every scuba-diver and snorkeler, as well as anyone else in close proximity of the sea, whether on a professional level or recreationally, to make a change.
Since Project AWARE's founding, more than 1000 scuba dive outfits, countless volunteers of the diving community, as well as other volunteers with a love for the sea, have committed to marine protection efforts worldwide.
Join Project AWARE; not only by actively joining the community, but also by creating awareness amongst your friends, family members and everybody else that the world's oceans are in danger.
Together Project AWARE, we can make a difference.
